Grit Sand – 20kg Weatherproof Bag contains coarse, angular sand commonly used for paving, concrete, floor screeds and general groundwork. Also known as sharp sand, its larger, grittier particles provide greater stability and drainage than fine building sand. The manageable 20kg bag is suitable for smaller projects, repair work and locations where access makes handling bulk bags difficult.
Grit sand is frequently chosen for preparing bedding layers beneath paving slabs and blocks because it can be levelled and compacted to produce a firm working surface. It can also be combined with cement and aggregate in specified concrete mixes or used when preparing suitable screeds. The correct mixing ratio and installation method will depend on the application. This material should not be substituted automatically for soft building sand in bricklaying mortar, where workability is particularly important. Natural variations in colour, grading and moisture content may occur between bags and deliveries.
