Red Building Sand – 20kg Weatherproof Bag is a fine, soft-textured sand used for preparing workable mortar for bricklaying, blockwork, pointing and rendering. Its smaller particles help produce a smooth, cohesive mix that is easier to spread and shape than mortar made with coarse grit sand. The natural reddish colouring can also complement traditional brickwork and warm-toned masonry, although the finished mortar colour will depend on the cement, additives and mixing proportions used.
The convenient 20kg bag is suitable for repairs, extensions, garden walls and smaller construction projects where a bulk delivery would create unnecessary waste. Red building sand should be mixed to the proportions specified for the intended mortar or render rather than using one general ratio for every application. It is not a direct substitute for sharp sand in concrete, screeds or drainage work. As sand is naturally sourced, minor differences in colour, grading and moisture content can occur between batches, so sufficient material should be purchased together where appearance is important.
