Red Building Sand – 900kg Bulk Bag
£51.00 ex VAT
Product Overview
Red Building Sand – 900kg Bulk Bag is a fine, soft aggregate used primarily for preparing smooth and workable sand-and-cement mortar. Its fine particle grading helps produce a cohesive mix that is easy to spread, shape and finish during bricklaying, blockwork, pointing and rendering. The nominal 900kg bulk bag provides an efficient quantity for larger domestic, commercial and trade projects while keeping the material contained during delivery and storage.
Compared with coarse grit or sharp sand, red building sand produces a smoother, more workable mortar. It should not be used as a direct substitute for sharp sand in structural concrete, floor screeds, drainage layers or load-bearing sub-bases, where a coarser graded aggregate is required. Mortar proportions should follow the project specification and the cement, lime or additive manufacturer’s instructions. As this is a naturally sourced material, colour, texture, moisture content and delivered weight may vary slightly between batches.

Common Questions
ToggleQ. Is red building sand suitable for making concrete?
A. No. Its fine, soft grading is intended principally for mortar and rendering. Concrete normally requires grit or sharp sand together with the correctly specified coarse aggregate.
Q. What mortar mix should I use?
A. The correct proportions depend on the masonry, required mortar strength and exposure conditions. Follow the project specification and the cement, lime or mortar-additive manufacturer’s instructions.
Q. Is the bag guaranteed to weigh exactly 900kg?
A. The stated 900kg is a nominal packed weight. Moisture content and normal production tolerances can cause the delivered weight to vary slightly.
Q. Will every bag be exactly the same colour?
A. Not necessarily. Building sand is a naturally sourced aggregate, so its shade and texture may vary between batches and supply locations. Purchase sufficient material from one batch where colour matching is important.
Q. Can it be used as a bedding layer beneath paving?
A. It is not the preferred material for a load-bearing or free-draining paving bed. Grit or sharp sand should normally be used unless a specified mortar-bedding mix requires building sand.
