Product Overview:
The Suffolk Latch – Heavy Galvanised (GATEMATE®) is a traditional thumb-operated latch for timber garden gates, side gates and pedestrian entrances. It allows the gate to be opened from either side, using the thumb piece and lift lever externally and the handle bar internally. This makes it a practical choice for regularly used domestic access points where simple operation and traditional appearance are more important than keyed locking.
Its heavy galvanised construction provides additional strength and corrosion resistance for outdoor use, making it better suited to exposed timber gates than lightweight decorative latches. The latch bar drops into the keeper hook to hold the gate closed, while the supplied exterior-grade woodscrews simplify installation onto a suitable timber gate and post. A Suffolk latch keeps the gate closed but does not provide lockable security by itself. Where the entrance needs to be secured against unauthorised access, install a compatible Brenton padbolt or another suitable locking device separately.
